Mapping illegal wildlife trade spots in Vietnam
In January 2014, we started a campaign to involve Vietnamese people who are using smartphone to report illegal wildlife trade activities.
People is instructed to use their smart phone to record GPS point of where the illegal trade happen and which species are being sold or kept illegally. They will then reported these information to us.
Information will then be sent to forest rangers and/or Vietnam environmental police. We will keep a record of whether these case are being process or not.
GPS points will be used to create a map of "hot spot" for illegal trade from the North to South of Vietnam. The map will show where the illegal trade is happen and which species is being encountered the most. Analysis will show how effective Vietnamese forest rangers/ environmental police works, whether Hanoi, Da Nang or Ho Chi Minh city is the "hottest" spot for illegal wildlife trade.
More information will be updated.
